James' nonfiction, reviews, and criticism have appeared digitally on Ploughshares, Outside, Five Books, Lithub, and The Huffington Post. His forward also appears in the most recent North American-Edition of Irish Tour de France rider Paul Kimmage's seminal book on doping, Rough Ride and his article “Doping Competition and the Meaning of Sport” was anthologized in Doping: Opposing Viewpoints (Greenhaven Press) in 2011.
His academic writing on thinkers including Martin Heidegger, Karl Popper, and Ludwig Wittgenstein has appeared in journals including Aporia, Otherwise, and Noetic.
His major press debut, THE ART OF CYCLING: PHILOSOPHY MEANING< AND A LIFE ON TWO WHEELS (Quercus Pegasus Books) was shortlisted for the 2022 British Sports Book of the Year in the cycling category.
He is currently working on his next nonfiction project.
Fiction
James' short fiction has appeared in several journals and an early draft of his first novel was selected by Tin House for their long-standing Winter Workshop.
